Learning objectives

The Master’s programme addresses the numerous and complex challenges of conserving and managing contemporary art, through a strongly multidisciplinary yet unified methodological approach, in keeping with the tradition of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure. Through an extensive series of lectures, seminars, workshops, meetings with artists and museum visits, participants will learn to examine the problems of contemporary artworks in depth, strengthening their knowledge and practical skills in art history, technical and conservation studies, and scientific research. Particular attention will also be devoted to cataloguing, the creation and management of contemporary art archives — whether private (artist archives, foundations, collectors’ archives) or public (museums, research centres).
A significant part of the teaching will focus on contemporary art heritage in Tuscany, as reflected by the participation of the region’s most important active institutions.
