A conservator of works of art on paper and a preventive conservation consultant, he entered the conservation field in 1988. He studied the restoration of books, drawings and prints in Florence, Italy, and preventive conservation of cultural heritage in Paris, France, where he currently lives. Antonio Mirabile is accredited by the French Ministry of Culture to restore artistic and cultural objects belonging to the Musées de France.

He works regularly for various public and private collections, in particular on modern and contemporary works of art on paper and functional drawings. As a UNESCO Expert he has worked on various conservation projects, the most significant of which have taken place in Yemen, Egypt, Mongolia, North Korea, Uzbekistan and Mauritania. His current professional activities encompass several areas, including UNESCO missions, preventive conservation projects, conservation treatments of paper-based material and scientific research. The development of innovative methods that optimise conservation treatments and preventive conservation activities are two of the research strands that Antonio Mirabile pursues as a partner in various European Union-funded projects.

Alongside this work, he organises and teaches conservation of paper and preventive conservation at various universities and conservation schools through short training courses and masterclasses. He is the author and co-author of approximately fifty articles and has written two conservation manuals published by UNESCO. He is an active member of INCCA, ICOM and Blue Shield.
