Glyptic Workbench

Descrizione opera

Technical efficiency combines with elegance in this late eighteenth-century workbench, used to realize cameos and gems. The operator had a comfortable anatomical surface, equipped with a pedal system which commanded the rotation mechanism, concealed within the globe held by Atlas. The bench was also furnished with small drawers, lockable by means of only one mechanism. They held all the necessary drills and tips for stone carving, which was carried out also with the use of abrasive powders wetted with water; these were essential to achieve a fine and progressive abrasion and modelling of the stones.
