This panel belongs to a series with sacred stories destined to the decoration of the altar-shrine that should have been raised at the center of the Chapel of the Princes.
An actual “painting with stones”, this panel was made in 1612 and portrays the prophet Elijah reanimated by the angel in a landscape with a small chapel and a cypress tree.
The panel is made with lapislazzuli speckled with white particles, Sicilian jaspers with brown, green and yellow hues and pearly chalcedonies, elegantly matched colors. The small panel is even more enriched by a thin gold sheet inserted under the prophet’s double hemmed tunic.
