Curriculum
Sara Penoni is a conservator trained at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, where she defended a dissertation entitled “Study of Selected Injection Mortars for the Re-adhesion of Plaster in Mural Paintings”. She had previously obtained, in 1993, a degree in Art History from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna (equivalence under Article 1, paragraphs 102 to 107, Law 228/2012). In 2016 she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Technologies for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Tuscia.
As a freelance conservator, co-founding the firm Faberestauro together with her colleagues Cristiana Todaro and Stefania Luppichini, she carried out numerous restoration projects on painted cycles, including the paintings in the Sala del Paradiso by Nicolò dell’Abate in Scandiano (Reggio Emilia), the painted cycles in Palazzo Fava in Bologna by Annibale Carracci and his school, and the restoration of the Crucifix attributed to Giunta Pisano in the Church of San Colombano in Bologna. She has participated in numerous research projects, including the project on the study of Paolo Uccello’s painted cycle in the upper cloister of San Miniato al Monte in Florence.
She has taught conservation at the University of Palermo and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna; since 2018 she has been a lecturer and conservator officer at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure. She has a substantial record of publications and has participated in conferences and study days.
