A respected art historian and senior official at the Ministry of Culture, Emanuela Daffra was appointed acting Superintendent of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure from 1 September 2022 and in May 2024 was confirmed as full Superintendent of the Institute. She began her career at the Ministry in 1990 as an officer at the Soprintendenza for Artistic and Historical Heritage of Western Lombardy. From 2009 to 2016 she was deputy director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, and subsequently director of the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. In 2018 she worked at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure as head of the Conservation Departments for Polychrome Wooden Sculptures, Textiles and Tapestries. From February 2019 to May 2024 she directed the Regional Museums Directorate of Lombardy, a role she held concurrently with the acting directorship of the Opificio until May 2024, when she took up the position of Superintendent of the OPD on a full-time basis.
