Conservative Restoration Officer
Restoration department: bronze artefacts and ancient weapons
Born in Lucignano (Arezzo) in 1960. Following her classical secondary school diploma, she completed the restoration course at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in the Goldsmithing department, followed by a traineeship at the Conservation Centre of the Soprintendenza Archeologica in Florence. In 2007 she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Technologies for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Tuscia (dissertation title: *Bronze Sculpture and Its Colour: Patination Techniques*).
She worked as a freelance conservator (sole trader, 1988–99) and joined the Opificio delle Pietre Dure as a member of MiC staff in October 1999. From 2013 to 2024 she was Technical Director of the Bronzes and Ancient Arms Department; she has taught on SAFS courses in the subjects REST 01 (laboratory techniques), ING-IND/22 (constituent materials), M-STO/05 (history of artistic techniques) and on the Opificio’s master’s programmes in the restoration and conservation of contemporary art. She has supervised dissertations internally at the Opificio and served as examiner for external dissertations. She has contributed to several projects of the Opificio’s Scientific Laboratory within European frameworks (e.g. IPERION CH, Scan4Reco) and has participated in scientific and organising committees for conferences (*Dalle tecniche allo stile: sculture in ferro e in bronzo della seconda metà del Novecento*, Pistoia, 3–4 December 2019; LACONA XIII, Florence, 12–16 September 2022; *Ghise storiche e arredo urbano*, Longiano, 21 October 2022).
Among the works she has treated, studied and planned interventions for, notable projects include her participation in the restoration of the Doors of the Florentine Baptistery, the *Saint Matthew* by Ghiberti (Orsanmichele, Florence), the two Pulpits by Donatello (Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence) and the gilt bronze elements of the Baptismal Font in Siena (currently in progress). Within the department she has promoted interventions on modern and contemporary works, participating in the restoration of various sculptures (H. Moore, *Working Model for Oval with Points*, Nasher Collection, Dallas; *Warrior with Shield*, British Institute – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, in progress), works by Q. Martini and small bronzes by various 20th-century artists held at the GAM in Florence. She has contributed to establishing agreements and targeted projects with institutions and collections (Parco-Museo Quinto Martini, Seano, Prato; Cimitero delle Porte Sante, Florence; Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice; Gori Collection – Fattoria di Celle, Santomato, Pistoia).
